Ryan Wright counsels nationwide and international clients involved in for-hire and private motor carriage, brokerage, freight forwarding, and other third-party logistics, shipping, and equipment leasing in a number of areas, including:

  • Federal and state regulatory compliance, including procurement of all types of licenses, permits, and vehicle accounts
  • Transportation-related tax, including state sales and use tax related to rolling stock, International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA) fuel tax, and state highway use tax
  • Vehicle titling and registration, including International Registration Plan (IRP) plating, state base plating, and related strategies
  • Acquisitions, corporate structuring, and liability risk management
  • Commercial contracts

In addition, Wright counsels vehicle manufacturers regarding compliance with National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) regulations, including the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) and recall regulations. He serves as general counsel for the National Association of Trailer Manufacturers (NATM) and has served as member of an independent monitor team selected by NHTSA that audited a major vehicle manufacturer’s compliance with a multi-year consent order.

He also has extensive experience counseling clients on independent contractor issues, including drafting and reviewing independent contractor and equipment lease agreements and auditing independent contractor programs, as well as antitrust and arbitration issues.
