Robert Rowlett’s practice focuses on litigation and commercial law, with the majority of his time dedicated to defending class and complex actions. He routinely litigates national cases involving the Fair Labor Standards Act, the Class Action Fairness Act, and state wage and hour statutes. His cases involve hundreds, and oftentimes thousands, of class participants and millions of dollars in claims. He is adept at all aspects of litigation, including motions practice, discovery, ESI, state and federal procedure, settlement, dispositive motions, and oral advocacy. Rowlett has represented both motor carriers and brokers and is familiar with many different forms of logistics operations, including over-the-road, FTL, LTL, freight forwarding, truckaway, and others.
Prior to joining the Firm, Rowlett served as a Deputy Attorney General for the Administrative and Regulatory Enforcement Litigation (AREL) section of the Office of the Indiana Attorney General. In that role, he had myriad responsibilities, including:
- Representing the State of Indiana and its agencies, public officials, and employees before state and federal courts, including serving as lead counsel on over 200 cases
- Litigating judicial reviews, petitions to enforce, complaints for injunctive relief, tax cases, and high-profile constitutional challenges
- Managing complex discovery and ESI, including serving as an Everlaw lead and as lead discovery attorney on several complex matters
- Serving as the senior member of the tax practice group, overseeing almost all litigation involving the Indiana Department of State Revenue before the Indiana Tax Court
- Serving as trial counsel for the Indiana Solicitor General, including managing all phases of discovery for certain high-profile and complex constitutional cases
- Managing the law clerk program for AREL and mentoring an Intensive Deputy Attorney General (I-DAG) Program candidate each year
Rowlett also graduated from the prestigious I-DAG program as part of its inaugural cohort. He also volunteers as an advisory board member for the Home of Parent-directed Edification (HOPE), Inc., an Indiana nonprofit organization. He enjoys pickleball, apologetics, and golf.
