Jackson regularly advises industry clients (be they motor carriers, brokers, forwarders, equipment lessors, shippers, etc.) on a wide range of transportation-centered concerns, including:
- Transportation Operations & Structure: Offering guidance on organizational structures, day-to-day operations, and strategies for restructuring to ensure asset protection and corporate separateness, including the use of intercompany arrangements.
- Contract Negotiation & Drafting: Specializing in transportation and logistics-related contracts, including review and negotiation of agreements across various sectors of the industry.
- Regulatory Compliance: Assisting clients with federal and state regulatory concerns, particularly regarding transportation entity licensing, operating authorities, and compliance with transportation regulations.
- Third-Party Logistics (3PL): Addressing issues specific to non-asset and tech-enabled logistics providers.
- Independent Contractor & Owner-Operator Issues: Providing counsel on independent contractor and owner-operator arrangements, including challenges to classification and strategies for mitigating reclassification risks.
- Leasing Arrangements: Advising on lease/purchase and lease-back programs, as well as equipment leasing in the transportation industry, while ensuring compliance with federal leasing regulations.
- Intermodal Transportation: Offering expertise on intermodal issues affecting the transportation and logistics sector.
- Workers’ Compensation Premium Audits: Defending motor carriers and property brokers in workers’ compensation premium audit disputes.
- Freight Charge Disputes: Regularly advising clients collection disputes.
- Cargo Claims: Offering counsel to parties on all sides of cargo loss claims.
