Adam Smedstad is a trial lawyer who has spent most of his career defending motor carriers and property brokers in class actions. Smedstad is one of few trial lawyers who has tried multiple class actions to verdict. Smedstad has defended challenges to independent contractor classification and employee wage and hour claims in some of the nation’s most difficult jurisdictions. He also has extensive experience defending class actions alleging violations of the Federal Leasing Regulations. Smedstad is a regular speaker at industry forums.

Crash Course on Class and Collective Litigation
This panel discussed several problems motor carriers face in dealing with class and collective action lawsuits and how best to avoid them.
Using federal and state laws, plaintiffs’ lawyers sue carriers for, among other things, minimum wage violations, underpayment of wages, improper wage deductions, expense reimbursements, and
privacy violations. Carriers can implement policies and take other actions to avoid the crashes, potholes, and detours litigation causes.
